Clean Up Safety Reminders

ü  Know how many are in your group and account for them regularly.

ü  Plan ahead - find out as much as possible about the area prior to your cleanup day.

ü  Wear work gloves and sturdy boots/shoes when needed.

ü  Always watch where you step.  Be careful of broken glass, debris and uneven terrain.

ü  Carry drinking water for your group with you.

ü  Be certain you and your group have a well-supplied first aid kit for minor cuts and insect bites.

ü  Know what to do in the event of an emergency.

ü  Remember that everyone should stay with the group and not wander.

ü  Be careful of the sun.  Wear a hat, sunglasses and carry sunscreen to prevent burning.

ü  Always wear your life jacket, and have members of your group wear life jackets when on a boat.

ü  If uncertain about an individual's swimming ability, ask that they wear a life jacket when walking along the shoreline during your cleanup effort.

ü  Keep all litter collected in garbage bags.
