Nolin Fest 2020

The Friends of Nolin Lake Rex Hurt Memorial Nolin Fest 2020 took place on August 8. While we had to modify it this year to a water-only event, we think it was a great day on the water. Nolin Fest wouldn't have been possible without our friends at Ponderosa Marina, K's Cafe & Catering, DJ Doug Ames, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

View our photos from the event here.

Winners for our #FONLNolinFest2020 social media contest were:

●    Jessica LeBlanc
●    Katy McLean
●    Tess Mart Sansbury
●    Heather Yocum

Thanks to all who participated!

Friends of Nolin Lake conducted its Annual Membership Meeting
on April 25, 2020. In compliance with COVID-19 directives, restrictions and recommendations we held a well-organized virtual meeting. We received final 2019 reports as well as 2020 status updates on financials and events. We also heard an update from the US Army Corps of Engineers and reports on  2020 membership and volunteer opportunities. The meeting provided a great connection between Friends of Nolin Lake members, staff and partners.

You can listen to an audio of the meeting by clicking the logo to the right.

The Brier Creek Trail-a-Thon took place on October 5, 2019. For more details, click here.

Nolin Fest 2019 offered free admission, free musical entertainment by Andy and the Rockers, free inflatables for the kids to play on and a fantastic free fireworks show over the lake at the end of the night. There were also food vendors serving all manner of culinary treats and refreshments, goods vendors with a wide variety of practical necessities, and youth organizations representing the best of the next generation. The weather was gorgeous (if a little warm) and smiles and laughter abounded. Thanks to all who helped make this year's event such a huge success! Hope to see you all next year!

Family Fest 2019 was a blast! There were free hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks and games for all in attendance, and free Kona Ice, temporary tattoos, inflatable slide and inflatable bounce house for kids. The warm temperatures were not a problem with the lake nearby, plenty of shade, free bottled water and a pool full of water sponges to toss back and forth (okay, to throw at each other). Park Ranger Libby Watt taught the kids about water safety and how to help someone who is drowning (Reach, Throw, Row, Don't Go). Special thanks to Sherry's Red Roof Restaurant for the free food and drinks and to Kona Ice for the free Hawaiian-style shaved ice. If you missed this year's Family Fest, you missed a great time! Be sure to make plans to attend next year!

The 2019 Paddle Nolin event took place on May 18, a sunny and delightful Saturday morning on Nolin Lake. After a safety briefing and getting free safety whistles and hand towels provided by the Corps of Engineers, the 24 participants launched their 21 kayaks and canoes at the Dog Creek boat ramp and enjoyed a leisurely paddle further up Dog Creek, led by Corps of Engineers Ranger Lance Hauk. The group paddled 2½ miles or so up Dog Creek and then returned to the boat ramp to take out their boats. It was a safe and rejuvenating event for all. We hope you'll plan to join us at the 2020 Paddle Nolin!

Members-Only Free Camping Weekend: Our members-only free camping weekend took place Friday Apr 26 - Sunday Apr 28 when Moutardier Campground hosted 35 Friends of Nolin Lake families - and no one else - for a relaxing weekend spent with family and friends in beautiful surroundings. We also had our Annual Meeting on Saturday where members and staff heard about an upcoming fish habitat improvement project and discussed last year's events, this year's planned events, and ideas about how to make Friends of Nolin Lake even better.

2019 Nature Walk: Friends of Nolin Lake kicked off the 2019 season of events with our Nature Walk over the Waterfall Loop of the Brier Creek Trail system. It was a perfect spring morning to see and learn about our local wildflowers, ferns, vines, trees, lichens and birds. Judging by the smiles, everyone had a great time. We hope you can join us for other events this year - listed in the sidebar menu to the left.
